Joe Kirby was born in London, Ontario, Canada and grew up in Burlington, Ontario with his parents, two brothers and one sister. He played baseball in Burlington from the age of 5 to 17. He played on a team that won a national championship, four provincial championships and nine division titles and was also a league all-star five times. Joe then played in the American Connie Mack League for one season. While in high school, he played for the M.M. Robinson Rams for 5 years and was named to the Toronto Star Daily Newspaper all-star team which selected the best of Ontario high school baseball players. |

After high school Joe attended Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas in the United States then transferred to Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma. After two years of junior college, Joe went to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. During the summer months of school, Joe played in the Intercounty League in Southern Ontario for the Guelph Royals in both the junior league, where he won a league championship, and for the senior league. Upon finishing his time at UBC, Joe played two seasons of professional baseball. The first season was spent in the Southeastern League of Professional Baseball in Pensacola Florida for the Pensacola Pelicans where he won a league championship. His second season of professional baseball was spent in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he played for the Saskatoon Legends of the Canadian Baseball League. After professional baseball, Joe turned his main focus to teaching youth players from areas surrounding his home town. This included team coaching as well as private lessons. In 2007 joe was headcoach and player with the feldkirch cardinals. He helped them to win the vorarlberg league and the vorarlberg youth league. The cardinals finished second in the regional league west behind the hard bulls. The past few seasons he played on the varsity team at Brock University during the fall and for the Burlington Brants during the summer. The Brants are part of the Central Ontario Baseball Association (COBA) which is a senior league containing players over 21 who have played or are playing U.S. college baseball and former professionals. While at Brock as well as with the Brants, joe was the starting shortstop and have been a COBA all-star all three seasons he have played. joe was also named shortstop of the year for his division in COBA this past season.
